The Hall
Wall and roof framing are complete. After an

delivered to start the acclimatisation process which
can take several weeks. This process is required by
Australian standards before installation.

The Covered WalkwayFootings were completed over the break and
covered with asphalt. These are ready for structural
steel installation.
The Classrooms
The suspended slab has been poured and the stairs
to the second level are currently being formed.
Weather permitting, the columns to the roof will be
poured this weekend. The completion of structural
steel should happen at the end of May.

New Entry Gate
Access has been installed. The gate and fence
panels are being fabricated. The galvanizing
process will take several weeks.

BRONTE PUBLIC SCHOOL

BRONTE SCHOOL’S $3.4 MILLION UPGRADE
Welcome to the 2010 school year, especially to our new kindergarten students and parents.
As you will have noticed major building works are currently underway at the school. Living with this scale of construction is not easy, but the $3.4 million in building works allocated to Bronte last year by the Federal Government provides an exciting opportunity for the school to position itself for the future.
To keep the community as up to date as possible on what is happening, we are providing all the information we have on hand at this stage. We will keep you informed on progress throughout the year as will the Principal, Ms Paton.
The building works are part of the Federal Government’s Building the Education Revolution (BER). For Bronte, the funding has been received in two parts.
Firstly, we received $200,000 for the much-needed refurbishment of the main administration block. Work on this started last year and is almost complete. It included painting the building inside and out, new carpets, pin tucking of the brickwork, new furnishings and an upgrade of the two staff toilets upstairs to bring them up to code. Ms Paton has moved to a new office upstairs and her old office will be used for reading recovery and support teacher learning. The uniform shop is now situated on the second floor of the administration block.
Our thanks to staff for organising the beautiful new artwork (by the students, of course) now featured on the walls throughout the building and Jane Soepono for organising the lettering for the school’s 10-point mission statement.
Secondly, Bronte was allocated $3.2 million in infrastructure work. This includes:
1) Demolition of the two wooden classrooms at the Murray Street end of the school (which occurred in December last year) to make way for a two-storey
brick building that will feature four new, state-of-the-art classrooms with inter-connecting doors.
The new building is due to be finished by the end of term 3.
2) Major improvements to the hall. This includes an extension at the Palmerston Street end of the hall that will have ramp access. A new stage will be constructed with new flooring and to help with ventilation new whirlybirds will be installed in the roof.
These works are due to be finished in term 2.
3) The classroom (currently occupied by 5D) near the garden has been refurbished with soundproofing, new carpet, new furnishings and direct access to the hall. Once the four new classrooms are operational, this classroom will become a multi-purpose room for use as a Green Room (during performances in the hall), band practice room and for dance, music, drama and art projects.
4) The front gate (near the administration block) will be re-positioned a few metres west so that access into and out of the school can be better managed and to take advantage of the undercover protection afforded by the sails in the playground. In fact, the sails will provide wet-weather walkways throughout the school.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers for their generous support throughout this project. They have given up their staffroom (which is now being used as a classroom) and are undertaking extra playground duty so that staggered recesses and lunch breaks are possible to manage the issue of limited space in the playground.
We would also like to thank Ms Paton for project managing this upgrade and for giving up so much time during the holidays to liaise with builders and Education Department representatives.
We expect that all work will be finished and the school will be back to normal by the start of term 4. In the meantime, we ask for your continued patience. If anyone has any problems please contact the builders at info@maincom.com.au or the school at bronte-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au.

4/11/2009 BER update

November 4th, 2009 admin Comments off

At last we have a start date for the extension
of the hall.

Monday November 9 we will have
builders at school to begin organising the site.

The most up to date map is on display in the
office.

There has been a delay on the flooring in the
administration block but all the work for the
area should be finished in the next few weeks.

Kelly Paton
Principal

Good news on Building the Education Revolution (BER).

November 1st, 2009 Principal Comments off

As advised in the Bulletin, Jane Soepono, Dave Clark and I had a meeting with the builders. It was extremely positive and we are confident that we now have a good understanding of the progress and scope of the works. There is a map in the “Building news” download area, as well as a large colour diagram in our school’s foyer.

Refurbishment of Block ‘D’ has commenced. This area and the vegetable garden will be off limits to our community for Term 4.

2M, Ms Metwally’s class, will spend Term 4, 2009 in a fabulous new classroom, set up in what was previously our staffroom.

We have been advised that we will continue to have access to the canteen, with the exception of up to a 4 week period in Term 1, 2010. Parents will be provided with plenty of notice when this happens.

We will also continue to have access to a section of the hall which will allow most programs to continue to run. A partition will be constructed approximately 2 metres in front of the stage due to the construction.

Bronte Activity Centre, (BAC) who support our families with outside school hours care have been contacted and offered the clothing shop area (front and back) as a solution to their office problem.

In 2010 we will continue to have access to most of the hall and room “D”. During the Christmas holidays, Block “C” (current Year 1 rooms) will be demolished and works begun on a two storey brick classroom construction. This will take approximately 40 weeks to complete.

We thank everyone for their patience and trust this provides some clarification on concerns raised. If you would like to further discuss aspects of BER, please do not hesitate to contact the office and we will endeavour to answer your enquiries.
